Charity Fair: Making a Difference Together

What started as an idea from residents John and Kathryn Dech in 2023 has grown into a special tradition at Moravian Village of Bethlehem. Each year, residents, staff, and local partners come together to sell homemade goods and handcrafted items, with proceeds benefiting charities of their choice.

The Charity Fair is about more than shopping. It’s an opportunity for our community to share its talents, support meaningful causes, and give back to those in need. Visitors can browse everything from baked goods and woodworking projects to jewelry and other handmade treasures, all created with a purpose. The event also offers a chance to connect with local organizations, including Essentials Café and Bethlehem Emergency Shelter, and learn more about the work they do in our community.

When asked what inspired them to start the Charity Fair, John and Kathryn shared:
“Many of the residents feel they are very fortunate to live in a village like this. That being so, we feel it imperative to demonstrate our concern for so many in our community and the world who are so less fortunate. The Charity Fair gives us the opportunity to give back by using our skills and creativity to make items that can be sold for a greater cause.”

This year, the Charity Fair had its most successful year yet, raising more than $4,100 for six different charities! It’s a wonderful reflection of what can happen when people come together for a common purpose.

We’re so grateful to John and Kathryn for bringing this idea to life, as well as to everyone who donated their time, shared their talents, or came out to support the fair. We look forward to continuing this tradition and seeing how much more we can accomplish together in the years to come.
