It’s been 8 months since I was hired at Moravian Village, and with it comes new adventures. I’m from the extreme western end of the Lehigh Valley, in Lower Macungie, so visits to Bethlehem (prior to working here) were typically in the evenings for dinner and cocktails with friends. Never, in a million years, would I have thought a career move to this beautiful city would impact me in so many positive ways.
For starters, it’s about our residents. The friendly, open-minded nature of this community speaks volumes about our future elder population. Not a day goes by where I do not look forward to work. The vibes and energy within the walls of Point 26 Suites and Cottages emanate outward and it shows with our outreach programs for children and families in need as well as friendly visits from locals.
As I got to know the residents and started getting comfortable with my role, it was time to explore after work. Instead of planning a night out, I delved deeper into the rich history and culture of our Historic District. Most people outside of Bethlehem, like myself, have only heard of Moravians without knowing much about them. That changed for me when Dan Soos, our CEO, educated me with a walking tour of the Moravian Church Settlement… and It all came full circle. The principles Moravians abide by are the driving force behind the culture we foster here such as continued learning, acceptance and understanding.
As time went by, I witnessed this Church Settlement become a World Heritage site and I felt a sense of pride for the Bethlehem Area Moravians and for all our residents who either came here locally or abroad. Bethlehem is not only a place for fine dining, its now home to a World Heritage Site. It seems like I was at the right place at the right time for employment. Hopefully it’s the right time for you to retire because Moravian Village is the place to be. Like many of our residents here, I was an outsider and now proud of the new area I work in.
