In a secure courtyard immediately off of the Four Seasons Room in the new Reverend & Barbara Caldwell Center for Memory Care, Moravian Village anticipates creating the Memory Care Garden this spring/summer.
Outdoor spaces promote relaxation, encourage physical activity, reduce agitation, and may help stimulate memories for people with dementia. Gentle exercise for the mind and body is involved in gardening which can help reduce common dementia symptoms such as poor appetite or disturbed sleep. Working in a garden also taps into happy memories for many people, even when memory is otherwise impaired. Gardens provide quiet spaces for visiting with family members.
Gardening and bird watching are very popular activities for people of all ages. Seeing a brilliant sunset, enjoying the lovely fragrance of a flower, and listening to the sounds of water cascading in a fountain, are all wonderful ways to excite the senses in a positive way. These activities are very important because they help a person remain connected to the world around them. It is imperative for a person with Alzheimer's to be able to continue enjoying outdoor activities which they have done throughout their lives.

Many Moravian Village of Bethlehem residents and patients no longer drive due to age related conditions. We provide transportation by bus for shopping trips, events, appointments, memorial services, and outings. Our 2005 bus was taken off the road, since repairs would cost more than its value. A new comfortable wheel chair accessible bus was delivered in 2016 and is being enjoyed by all. We are still accepting donations to offset the purchase cost and for upkeep and maintenance.
The Good Samaritan Fund provides financial assistance and charitable care to Moravian Village of Bethlehem residents who have depleted or outlived their own resources, allowing then to continue to receive the same quality of services, care, and life enrichment as residents with means still available.
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs that may double your charitable gift to Moravian Village of Bethlehem. Some companies even match gifts made by retirees or spouses of employees. Ask your employer’s Human Resources department if your gift can be matched.
